Mary Hansen

American University
Associate Professor, Department of Economics
Hansen was lead investigator on the NSF Major Research Instrumentation grant (AU’s first!) that brought HPC to AU and has served as chair of the faculty committee that manages the resource. Her current research is about two types of safety nets: bankruptcy and child welfare. Her work on Bankruptcy uncovers the ways that federal and state law shaped the increasingly complex relationship between debtors (both business and personal) and creditors in the rapidly evolving financial markets of the early 20th century. Her work on Child Welfare aims to measure the extent to which federal and state statutes and policies impact the goals safety, stability, and permanence for children.
